In 31 U.S. states, including many that do not have fully deregulated electricity markets, consumers wishing to support renewable energy have the option of paying higher electricity prices, with the premium going to support construction of new renewable energy capacity. These are known as green pricing programs, whereas green power purchase options only exist in states with deregulated electricity markets. The map below depicts states with utility green pricing programs.
